Lovely weather we're having here in Colorado, isn't it? I've got around 8 inches of snow at my house in central C/S with roughly 2-3 foot snowdrifts. The wind yesterday was AWFUL!! My house swayed all day yesterday and into the wee hours of this morning. Let me not forget to mention that I still had to report for Jury Duty yesterday. Thankfully though we were all dismissed and sent home early because the county shut its buildings down. My drive home was complete white out, even downtown was white out . . . yeah, that was fun. I've lived here my entire life and I must say that this blizzard hits the top 5 winter storms I've experienced. How's the weather where everyone else is?

I'm so glad you said that this was a bad storm. Since I've only lived here since June and have never lived in snow, I was afraid that I was just blowing it out of proportion. Oh, get it? "blowing" it out of proportion? HA! Ahem.
Anyway, our Christmas lights were blown of the nails on the roof and from the porch though not entirely. I was sent home by mid-afternoon since all the county offices were closed and we work closely with them. I tried to stop at a light and had prepared for the possibility of a skid and began stopping about 5 car lengths behind the truck that was there. I skided like crazy and came to a stop only half a car length behind the truck. I wasn't even jamming on the brakes, just a light pressure and release and repeat. I was glad to be safe at home after that.
Today I went to work and watched a lady getting pulled out of a drift, cars sliding around me, including the police car that just wanted to make a turn. Then I had to gun it through a drift that was just slightly under two feet to even get into our parking lot at work. Ugh!
I'm so sorry you had jury duty! That really sucks!!!!!!!

My husband and I went out earlier today and there were tons of people stuck on the side of the road in snow drifts. Mainly they were people with 2-wheel drive. I was impressed with how many people were out and about yesterday in that stuff. However we stopped by the Walmart at Platte/Chelton this morning and it was PACKED!! I couldn't believe how many people ventured out in this stuff. My husband manages a medical courier company and even though the medical industry never sleeps, he and his employees had the past two days off because of safety reasons. And no, you weren't "blowing" this storm out of proportion. (That was pretty funny . . .) Even though the storm in October was pretty impressive snowfall wise, I don't recall the constant ferocious winds with that one like we had yesterday. Then again this last storm was an Albuquerque low in true fashion and that's what makes them worse. We used to get them a lot when I was growing up and we used to have tons of snow. My brother and I would make igloos that would last for days because we had that much snow. Good times . . . good times . . .

Only 2-3 foot drifts? : 0-P We got higher... Heh, it was funny watching our Great dane over Christmas floundering around outside--she liked to bound through the snow like a deer, but only for a little while before it got a little too cold for her short coat! (While my dog, the wimp, the so-called "sled dog," didn't want to go out at all until a path was cleared... lol)
"Let me not forget to mention that I still had to report for Jury Duty yesterday." Ooh, ouch! We were mostly lucky--holidays meant that everyone except dad pretty much got to stay home. We had three cars in a row get stuck in our driveway the day my grandparents came, though--finally had to use the truck to pull them up after trying to shovel out for a few hours--and I skiied over to the dogs I was sitting with my mom, and basically let myself get snowed in there for a day and a half...heh. Sat around and watched movies. : 0-P One of the few times I drove anywhere--to take the dog to the vet for some minor surgery--I skidded right through one intersection (luckily just as the light turned green, and no cars on the other side of the "T" O.o;; ). Beyond that and my orthodontist appointment, I refused to do much driving ; 0-P I was astonished by all the people out in it, too. Even more appalling was the number of people out and driving without their lights or anything on...ugh. Just asking for it in those kind of bad visibility conditions, the idiots.
